Labor
Initially growing grapes was very labor intensive.  Everything was done by hand, starting out with some horse drawn equipment. They would plow between the rows and clean under the vines with horse-drawn hoes, and then go back through with hand hoes. All that was done by hand.  - Tim Washburn
