We were in the mail-order business for a long time. At one time, we were mailing half a million catalogs. We grew about one hundred acres of strawberry plants to be sold. The basket and crate industry was significant. As a result of the booming grape industry of the twentieth century, Michigan towns of Lawton, Paw Paw, and South Haven each had a basket factory. Baskets were made of veneer wood and could be any shape: round, conical, oval or oblong. |
