Four Weight myths that stop you from being slim

Here are Four of the most common myths that you will hear or read :

  1. Fat-free is calorie free.  We believe that food that does not contain a lot of fat also does not contain calories so we eat it in huge quantities. According to dieticians the low-fat or fat-free label does not mean kilojoule free and as such does not give us a license to eat as much of these foods as we can. Fat-free foods are useful in reducing the total energy intake for a day, but many of these foods are high in sugar,  which actually cancels out the low fat content. You should always also check the total kilojoule content and limit portion sizes accordingly.
  2. It is bad to snack between meals.  It all depends on the snacks you consume. High-fat foods like chocolates and chips will expand your waistline and pile on the pounds. It will also increase your chances of diseases like diabetes and high blood pressure. A diet of 5 to 6 smaller meals that are low in fat and high in fibre can be much healthier. If you feel the need to snack, rather choose fruits, raw vegetables and grain based foods that is ideal to maintain a healthy body weight.
  3. Drinking hot water in the morning or iced water throughout the day helps to lose weight.Water is water and cold or hot water will not use up any more kilojoules than drinking water at room temperature. Water does however help to flush out toxins in your body and can curb your appetite. To effectively lose weight and keep it off, you should change your lifestyle and drink water throughout the day. 4. Certain foods make your body burn extra kilojoules and help you to lose weight but food scientists say that there are no magic foods that help you actually burn fat. The only way to lose weight and keep it off is to eat the correct foods, change your lifestyle and drink enough water every day to ensure that your body can flush out all the toxins that can lead to bad health.
